Police and Gays work together

A very unique event took place on March 19th in Cleveland. At the request of members of the Cleveland Police Department there was a meeting and general rap session between Police Officers and members of the Gay Community: The purpose, to open lines of honest communication between Police and Gays.

The meeting was held at the Vaults Underground. It was attended by Detectives Jim Cudo and Jim Svekric along with representitives of NOCI, ACTION, Chaps, Excalibur, Vaults, Club Cleveland, Keys, A Man's World, West 9th St. Club Baths, Tomahawk Bar, 620 Club, Tower City Corps and Heaven.

The meeting lasted a couple of hours, with plenty of candid giveand-take on both sides. Some of the things agreed on were: Putting posters in the Bars & Baths to make the Gay Community aware of what the Police are doing to protect us, and what we can do to help them. Also for the bartenders and baths attendants to work closer with the Police in looking for, and identifing

kwown trouble-makers. By the end of the meeting, all concerned were talking and joking with one another openly and freely.

We must restate that it was the Police that asked for this meeting, not us. Everyone there agreed that it was a productive afternoon, and a good start of a long-overdue, and much-needed, working relationship.
